Independence Day

Happy 4th of July 2021!

Celebrations seem so strange after the covid months. My neighborhood is full of fireworks tonight. Duncan is not happy about it at all. It is a return to normal I suppose, which is good, but I kind of miss the quiet.

Have a good week everyone!

Canada Day 2021

This year Canada Day is a day of reflection and grief. It is not a day to celebrate. Canadians love their country and we have many blessings- but we must be willing to look at our history and acknowledge the wrongs that were done.

"It's possible to love something very much and also want it to be better than it was, and is." Chris Jones

1500 graves discovered over the last month or so. Many more will be uncovered.
As many as 25,000 children may have died.

Niagara Falls will be illuminated in Red & White to celebrate Canada and rotate to Orange to honour and support our Indigenous community.

Throughout Canada Day, the CN Tower will light up in orange in solidarity with and in support of Indigenous communities across Canada; there will be no light show

My heart breaks for our country, for the mothers and fathers whose children never returned, and most of all for the children who endured this hell. And I shed tears at my ignorance. This is what happens when we whitewash our history.

WE. MUST. DO. BETTER.

Let's continue the celebration

Today is Q's Birthday! Someone who is very special to all of us. So many memories shared over the years. I must say she helped me cope during the covid months. 😉 I think we may have had plenty of sweets during Regina's celebration, so let's enjoy some different treats now.

The lobster roll is the best part!

Happy Birthday Q!

The Wisdom of Charles Schulz.

I received this sweet email and wanted to share it with all of you.

The following is the philosophy of Charles Schulz, the creator of the 'Peanuts' comic strip.

You don't have to actually answer the questions.
Just ponder on them & read to the end. You’ll get the meaning.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.

2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.

Charles Schulz Philosophy

How did you do?
The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday.
These are no second-rate achievers.
They are the best in their fields.
But the applause dies.
Awards tarnish ...
Achievements are forgotten.
Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.

2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier?
The lesson:
The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money ... or the most awards.
They simply are the ones who care the most .

Pass this on to those people whom you keep close in your heart.
"Don't worry about the world coming to an end today.
It's  already tomorrow in Australia!"

"Be Yourself.  Everyone Else Is Taken!"

Funny Multiples

It's safe to say that we are all animal lovers here on the WTIOC. Some of us even have, or want to have, more than just one or two fur babies. These photos show life when you are outnumbered by your pets. Some gave me a chuckle, and some an awwww. I hope you enjoy them.

Big Dogs and Little Kids

Party's over! I stuffed myself with cake and cannot look at another piece.

"Little Kids and Their Big Dogs" is a heartwarming photography project by Andy Seliverstoff that focuses on the unbreakable bond between little children and their supersized dogs."

A couple of months ago I received an email with a slideshow of some of these wonderful photos. It is snowing here and I think this is a perfect day to share some of them with you.

Andy Seliverstoff is a Russian photographer. He has a number of photography books as well as calendars and cards for sale. I find his photographs very touching. I have included a link to his site.

I think our favourite big dog will enjoy these photos. ; )
