Special Friends

I have been in Montreal most of the week. My dear friend, the dearest friend I could ever wish for, is very sick. We spent a lot of precious moments together in the hospital over the last few days.

I am so grateful for our friendship.

I have thought a lot about the word- friend. My friend. My best friend. The word really does not describe what she means to me.
I tell the people in the hospital that she is my sister. And she is- the sister of my heart.

I hope all of you have had such a friend.

I will go back to Montreal next week and every week for as long as she needs me. There is no place I would rather be. Please keep both of us in your thoughts.

Barbie in PEI. She loves Lupins.

Always classy...

Quick post

Here's a funny one, just to keep things moving. I'm all over the place, buying some things for the apartment, waiting for deliveries, helping Julia... The "problem" is that everything closes between 2 and 5pm. The heat is really ferocious, people simply stay at home. I'm not used to it yet, and get frustrated waiting for the shops and other services to reopen in the afternoon. I should be able to move in by tomorrow. When I have everything the way I want it, I'll post some photos. Hasta la vista!

Food art

We all enjoy food and we all enjoy art. This post is a two for one!

This one is for GrannyJ!

They look so happy! 😊

This one is weird.

Much better than the watermelon above...

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Garden update

Because of a lack of any original ideas, I decided to share my mid July vegetable garden progression. The weather has been mostly hot, and very rainy at times. I think it has affected my plants. The  jalapeno pepper plants are doing very well, but the sweet peppers and tomatoes seem slow. I hope it all works out in the end. The yard looks pretty though, and Duncan approves!

Weekend at Upper Canada Village

Big plans this weekend. It is the War of 1812 Military Re-Enactment Weekend at Upper Canada Village!

Step right into the authentically recreated camps of the British and American army during the War of 1812. You will find craftspeople and artisans to add colour to the whole show. It all culminates in a re-enactment of the Battle of Chrysler Farm- which actually took place right on that spot.

Unfortunately, I will not be attending as I am heading into Montreal. Perhaps my daughter and son-in-law will head over with Mike.

Who knew... It looks like it was a pretty big deal back in the day!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Thinking of View

I was remembering our friend View yesterday. He was always entertaining and told so many "groaner jokes".  He sure is missed around here!

Have a punny day!!

Another update

I'm not moving to the old fashioned apartment, after all.  The owner is much too precious about her stuff, so I would never feel at home there. I found another one, with modern furniture, well equipped, and just across the street from cousin Julia. I'll take some photos when I move. We're supposed to sign the contract on Friday, please keep your fingers crossed!

Last Friday evening I went to Granada with Julio, his wife and their daughter. Julio could be an excellent tourist guide, he gave me a very comprehensive history lesson! Granada is simply wonderful. We're in Armilla, about ten minutes away on the metro. It's more laid back than Granada but it has everything for everyday life.

I'll keep you posted as and when things happen. Here's a nice view on the Sierra Nevada, featuring the very beautiful Alhambra Palace:

Hasta la vista, amigos!

Imaginary friends

Did anyone ever have an imaginary friend? Yours truly had one. I am not sure what made me think about it, but my mind went down that road so I thought I would discuss it. Picture the year 1963...

Dinner is on the table. Mom sits down next to three year old Roxie. Suddenly, a shriek. Get up! You are sitting on my friend! Mom jumps up, confused, sees nothing on the chair. Roxie, what are you talking about?!  My friend Rebo is sitting there, I responded. My parents were cool and proceeded to set a place for Rebo. He joined us all the time after that. At the park, bedtime, and at restaurants. Going out to eat was interesting as the server had to be briefed on his existence so a place setting could be added. He always ate the same food as me.We shared Kiddie Cocktails. I actually remember this. Then he was gone as fast as he showed up.

I am not really that weird, am I? 😉
