International Women's Day

Young, old, rich, poor, witty, serious, beautiful, plain, calm, impossible, thin, fat, somewhere in the middle, whatever we are, we're all being celebrated today, it's our day! (Please join in the celebration, Pallottine and View!)

Yesterday I was in the middle of a post...

... when the power was cut off. The weather was absolutely atrocious yesterday, very, very windy, with 90km/hour gusts. The power came back in time for cooking lunch, but the internet stayed down until today. We went grocery shopping this afternoon and saw many trees down, and some were uprooted!

We didn't go out at all yesterday and we now know it was a wise decision. We just hope nobody was injured during the storm...

The post I lost will go up tomorrow.

This seal was given a furry toy that looks like a baby seal and fell in love with it!

Quite interesting words

I love words and find the weird ones fascinating... Here's a list of "useful" new words:

TARTLE (Scottish)  -  the moment when you have to introduce someone but you just can’t remember their name.

FUDGEL - (18th C.) Pretending to work when you're not actually doing anything.

ACNESTIS – the part of your back you can’t quite reach to scratch

LALOCHEZIA: the relief you get from stress or pain by using filthy words.

ONOMATOMANIA - the frustration of being unable to think of the appropriate word.

HYPNAGOGIA - the state of not being fully awake, but not being asleep either.

MOROSOPH - a fool who thinks he’s cleverer than he is.

OORIE – miserable as a result of cold weather.

APRICITY - the warmth of the sun on a cold winter’s day.

OMNILEGENT – reading everything or addicted to reading.

GIGIL (Tagalog) - the irresistible urge to squeeze something or someone that is unbearably cute.

This is an interesting comment on a confused word:

Television? The word is half Greek half Latin. No good can come of it. - C. P. SCOTT (1846-1932)

Many years of happiness

Today is our wedding anniversary. In the past 33 years we had our ups and downs, but today we're happier than ever. I'm a very lucky woman!
