May your day be spent enjoying family, friends, food and football.

Duncan's Big Adventure

Duncan spent a day in doggy daycare this week to prepare for a family wedding. He was a trooper and handled it very well.

It is a very groovy place.

He wasn't too sure about new friends...

My handsome boy.

He was so tired when he got home he fell asleep outside the back door.

Then he found his way to the couch.

Mr. Dunc actually interacted with 20 different dogs! He did very well.
Thanks to the daycare place for the pictures.

Poetic Kinetics

I recently read about Poetic Kinetics, a Los Angeles-based group that specializes in large-scale art installations and experiential design from concept through execution.

Berlin hosted an open-air art installation commemorating the Peaceful Revolution's 30th Anniversary. Kulturprojekte Berlin approached Poetic Kinetics to create a moving sculpture that would symbolize the unification of the German people. The art installation titled Visions in Motion was set up in front of the Brandenburg gate in Berlin, stretching along the walkway away from it.

The symbol of unity came in the form of 120,000 colorful ripstop nylon and reflective fabric streamers.

A quarter of the streamers had handwritten messages—greetings, wishes, memories, and hopes—from Germans themselves and the global community.

Visions in Motions was a part of a bigger event, the Berlin Festival Week, which took place on November 4th through the 10th. Visitors were able to participate in a variety of events, activities, and exhibitions spread across a number of historical locations to commemorate and celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution and the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Poetic Kinetics released this the video about project.

Edward Hopper

Edward Hopper (1882-1967) is one of my favorite painters. Born in New York, he studied at the New York School of Art (1900-1906), continuing his studies on his own in Paris. He then traveled and painted throughout Europe. Around 1910, Hopper returned to the US, settling in Greenwich Village in NYC. After a brief struggle for recognition, he soon started to show his paintings in galleries, eventually having one-man shows, then going on to be one of the most important of American painters.

From the 1930s throught the 1950s, Hopper spent his summers on Cape Cod, in the area where my family has a cottage. His Truro studio where he painted is still there, as is a house in my town which is a subject of one of his well-known paintings.

Hopper relies on light to express feelings of quietness, loneliness and isolation, common themes in his paintings.

This is Rooms for Tourists (1945). I believe this building is on the main street to the harbor in Wellfleet, MA and is still being operated as a guest house.

One of my favorites, Route 6, Eastham (1941)

These Two...

Now that I've got your attention...

It's been a while since I posted some pix of my kitties. Luke turned one recently, and Luxie turned two last month so it's a good time to share. Luke's naughty, pesty, annoying kitten phase has thankfully passed. Luxie is now able to be his big sister without fearing a playful attack (most of the time).

Their favorite pasttime is watching chipmunks on the deck or birds on the feeder. 99% of their waking hours are spent looking outside.

They don't care where they're watching from, any view to the deck is good with them. Luxie is on the post. Luke doesn't really know how to climb with his rear legs so the top of anything is her safe spot.

Every night when I make dinner, Luke meows until I move a chair from the table and put it in the kitchen so he can watch the chef. Luxie generally wants to share the chair so she gets a better view of the front door in case DH walks through it.

Luke has become be a real snuggler. He is very nervous getting picked up, but he is quick to jump up to give me a kitty-hug while he takes a snooze.

Luxie is still a character,
always surprising me with new places she finds to watch the action.

At the end of the day, they really love each other.
