Weekend at Upper Canada Village
Big plans this weekend. It is the War of 1812 Military Re-Enactment Weekend at Upper Canada Village!
Step right into the authentically recreated camps of the British and American army during the War of 1812. You will find craftspeople and artisans to add colour to the whole show. It all culminates in a re-enactment of the Battle of Chrysler Farm- which actually took place right on that spot.
Unfortunately, I will not be attending as I am heading into Montreal. Perhaps my daughter and son-in-law will head over with Mike.
Who knew... It looks like it was a pretty big deal back in the day!
Have a great weekend everyone.

Thinking of View
I was remembering our friend View yesterday. He was always entertaining and told so many "groaner jokes". He sure is missed around here!
Have a punny day!!

Another update
I'm not moving to the old fashioned apartment, after all. The owner is much too precious about her stuff, so I would never feel at home there. I found another one, with modern furniture, well equipped, and just across the street from cousin Julia. I'll take some photos when I move. We're supposed to sign the contract on Friday, please keep your fingers crossed!

Hasta la vista, amigos!
Last Friday evening I went to Granada with Julio, his wife and their daughter. Julio could be an excellent tourist guide, he gave me a very comprehensive history lesson! Granada is simply wonderful. We're in Armilla, about ten minutes away on the metro. It's more laid back than Granada but it has everything for everyday life.
I'll keep you posted as and when things happen. Here's a nice view on the Sierra Nevada, featuring the very beautiful Alhambra Palace:

Imaginary friends
Did anyone ever have an imaginary friend? Yours truly had one. I am not sure what made me think about it, but my mind went down that road so I thought I would discuss it. Picture the year 1963...
Dinner is on the table. Mom sits down next to three year old Roxie. Suddenly, a shriek. Get up! You are sitting on my friend! Mom jumps up, confused, sees nothing on the chair. Roxie, what are you talking about?! My friend Rebo is sitting there, I responded. My parents were cool and proceeded to set a place for Rebo. He joined us all the time after that. At the park, bedtime, and at restaurants. Going out to eat was interesting as the server had to be briefed on his existence so a place setting could be added. He always ate the same food as me.We shared Kiddie Cocktails. I actually remember this. Then he was gone as fast as he showed up.

I am not really that weird, am I? 😉

Strolling along the river
Our city has a beautiful Riverwalk located downtown. It features paths, bridges, fountains, artwork and memorials. It is a peaceful place to visit even though it is in the middle of a busy city. The downtown area around it offers many different types of restaurants, and a lot of shopping! I always feel like I am on vacation when I spend time there. I have to make a point of visiting more often.
There is also a beach downtown! Centennial beach was a former quarry and developed in 1932.
It has had many upgrades over the years. This was always a fun destination when our kids were young.
After exploring the Riverwalk, of course we were hungry. Time for a late breakfast!

A Little Bit of Heaven
I have had a request for more PEI photos. I may have shared some of these already- but I think they are just as beautiful the second or third or even fourth time. They calm my soul.
My very best friend would come to PEI ever summer. She diligently pulled all the weeds in the flower beds. We taught together for years and she always had my back. I could not love her more. She is very sick. Please send all of those strong, powerful, healing WTIOC thoughts her way. She knows who you all are... and has heard just about all of the really good blog stories.

Coping Strategies
If Trump isn't indicted or impeached soon, my arms are going to fall off from knitting to stay sane!
I have knit 3 blankets just in the last two months. Sigh! I am running out of things to knit.
Anyone need a new sweater? Anyone? Hello! Where'd you all go?

Travel adventures
Last Wednesday there was a ladies' lunch at the lake in Treignac for a monthly get together and to give me a jolly send off.

I started my journey to Spain on Friday and stayed the night in a hotel in Toulouse because the train and flight timetables clashed. I noticed a hairdressing salon opposite the hotel and had the brilliant idea of retouching my roots and having a trim. Three and a half hours later, I emerged looking like a cheap hooker with yellow hair on most of my head, with brown hair at the back. Was I furious? Yes, and didn't have time to correct the total disaster. The family was very nice and said I looked good (ha ha).

The journey itself went very well, without any incidents. I received a very warm welcome. I'm staying with my cousin Julia, who's 88 years old, but looks younger than me! She was a stunner when she was young. Julia made a delicious paella on Monday, and keeps feeding me all the time. It's a very Spanish thing... She has a wicked sense of humour and finally conceded that I looked like a hooker with the yellow hair.

Cousin Josefina, my mom and Julia at a flamenco show. Two of them seem very emotional...

Paella!

All I need to do now is register as a resident, open a bank account, transfer my pension and join the all-free, excellent Spanish health system. Julia's daughter is helping me navigate all the bureaucracy involved in the process.

Julia, Ana, yours truly and Pili (Julio's wife)
As soon as the local salon opened, I was there like a shot. Now I'm a brunette again.

We went to see an apartment on Monday afternoon. It's very well equipped, with top of the range appliances and comfortably furnished, with a/c and all that. The only snag is the old fashioned decor, with a lot of gold and horrendous pictures on the wall. The owner used to live there, so I kept quiet, not desiring to offend. I sent the link with photos to Billy and he agreed it looks like a museum, so we decided to call it a tourist attraction. Hey, if I have enough beds,a kitchen and somewhere to sit, the rest is immaterial. The rent is very reasonable for the location, a prime spot in Armilla. The building's entrance is spectacular, with marble floor, many beautiful potted plants and a modern elevator.
All I need to do now is register as a resident, open a bank account, transfer my pension and join the all-free, excellent Spanish health system. Julia's daughter is helping me navigate all the bureaucracy involved in the process.
It's all very exciting and positive. Hasta la vista, amigos!
[I'm beginning to think in Spanish, a good sign.]

Happy Independence Day!
Today is the 4th of July. I still feel it is a day to celebrate despite the current political climate. So enjoy your day off, have fun with family and friends, and relax. The sun will rise tomorrow 😊
Apologies to my facebook friends, but I am using a Duncan post you have probably seen..
The calm before the 4th of July storm
This is no big deal..
Wait, what was that sound?
Oh my goodness, 4th of July again!!
Have a great day!
