La belle France
Today is Bastille Day and France celebrates it big time. The sun is shining and tonight's fireworks should be spectacular, as always!

Busy sewing
Peter and I have been busy designing patterns for summer trousers (pants, yes?). It's impossible to find anything that fits on the waist these days. Everything seems to fit on the hips, which is problem for me, as I have no hips... and the belly doesn't help either! Today's designs are very unflattering on ladies of a certain age (and shape).
I ordered a couple of fabrics, searched for a basic trouser block, managed to put it on paper and we're just about ready to cut and sew. I can sew by hand very well, but I seem to be missing the brain cells necessary to operate a sewing machine, so Peter does that bit.
Here's a photo of the basic model:
And here are my fabrics:
Wish us luck, please. We'll need lots of it!

Sea sparkle
Known as a 'red tide' by day, the microalgae Noctiluca scintillans, known as 'sea sparkle', emits a bioluminescent blue glow when disturbed at night. Last May, residents of Hobart, Tasmania, were treated to a light show on the Derwent River, mostly around the South Arm Peninsula, as the dinoflagellate bloom has washed ashore.
The phenomenon looks interesting by day...
... but absolutely spectacular at night!
