One of each
Our former neighbour Dominique is arriving shortly for a visit after 4 years! I don't have time for a very involved post, so here are a couple of pictures to keep us going:

A walk in the woods
This is one of my favourite walks. The first half is very steep and Peter tends to complain, but he did really well this time. Well, at least the second half is all downhill... The area is very wooded, with very few houses. I photographed all of them and also any gardens and flowers I liked!
The next three photos are just around the corner from us. We have the gendarmes and the pompiers very nearby... The poppies add some colour to the (non-existent) sidewalk.

Food for thought. Really!
It's too hot to do any serious blogging. Here are some fun ideas involving food. We've seen a few of them before, but some are new and quite clever.

Chicks and science
A member of the audience asked the panel of thinkers and scientists: "What's up with chicks and science?" Neil deGrasse Tyson provided a brilliant answer:

Seventy years ago...
Amy sent us some photos and information about an event to remember all who died during the Normandy landings on D-Day. In her email, she said: "This fits so well with Pres Obama's statement about it being a lot easier to start wars than to end them." Thank you Amy.
On the International Peace Day last year, on September 21, British artists Jamie Wardley and Andy Moss accompanied by numerous volunteers, took to the beaches of Normandy with rakes and stencils in hand to etch 9,000 silhouettes representing fallen people into the sand. Titled The Fallen 9000 , the piece is meant as a stark visual reminder of the civilians, Germans and allied forces who died during the D-Day beach landings at Arromanches on June 6th, 1944 during WWII. The original team consisted of 60 volunteers, but as word spread nearly 500 additional local residents arrived to help with the temporary installation that lasted only a few hours before being washed away by the tide.

The little detective
This joke came from MrsG. It's another good one, thanks!
A mother is driving her little girl to her friend's house for a play date.
'Mommy,' the little girl asks, 'how old are you?'
'Honey, you are not supposed to ask a lady her age,' the mother replied.
'It's not polite.'
'OK', the little girl says,
'How much do you weigh?'
'Now really,' the mother says,
'those are personal questions and are really none of your business.'
Undaunted, the little girl asks, 'Why did you and Daddy get a divorce?'
'That's enough questions, young lady! Honestly!'
The exasperated mother walks away as the two friends begin to play.
' My Mom won't tell me anything about her,' the little girl says to her friend.
'Well,' says the friend,
'all you need to do is look at her driver's license.
It's like a report card, it has everything on it.'
Later that night the little girl says to her mother,
'I know how old you are.
You are 32.'
The mother is surprised and asks,
'How did you find that out?
'I also know that you weigh 130 pounds.'
The mother is past surprised and shocked now.
'How in Heaven's name did you find that out?'
'And,' the little girl says triumphantly,
'I know why you and daddy got a divorce.'
'Oh really?' the mother asks. 'Why?'
'Because you got an F in sex.'

Amazing board
Mrsgunka sent us this pictures of a fantastic chopping board, which reminded me of the funny video...
Thank you, MrsG.
The Almighty Board is the ultimate kitchen assistant. This smart-board will simultaneously serve as your cutting board, display your recipes, provide step-by-step directions and weigh your ingredients out for you. After you wash it, it will even tell you if it has been cleaned enough to avoid cross-contamination or food poisoning. Wow!
