It's been a while since we had jokes. These are short and sweet:
A barber, a bald man and an absent minded professor take a journey together. They have to camp overnight, so decide to take turns watching the luggage. When it's the barber's turn, he gets restless, so amuses himself by shaving the head of the professor. When the professor is woken up for his shift, he feels his head, and says "How stupid is that barber? He's woken up the bald man instead of me."

In biology class, the teacher draws a cucumber on the blackboard: "Children, could someone tell me what is this?"
Little Johnny raises his hand: "It's a dick, Miss Jones!"
The teacher bursts into tears and runs out.
In a minute the principal rushes in: "All right, what did you do now? Which one of you brought Miss Jones to tears? And who the hell drew that dick on the blackboard?"

Q: What's red and invisible?
A: No tomatoes.

Gardening fever
We seem to be very enthusiastic about gardening lately... Just imagine watering all these pots!
This afternoon we're going to a large garden centre to buy some flowers for our pots on the steps and also to have a look around for seed potatoes and cherry tomato plants. I suppose that planting potatoes in containers will be less back breaking than the traditional method (not to mention that we don't have space to plant them in the soil!).
Happy gardening, everybody!

Amy's sweet peas
I had these pictures in an open thread on the old blog. I really like them and hope Amy will send us more photos of her flowers as they bloom...

Peace and beauty
After the disturbing events of the past few days, I think we all deserve a trip to somewhere peaceful to enjoy the beautiful flowers and the simplicity of a laid back lifestyle.
We're going to Provence.
Happy birthday, GrannyJ!

Wanted for mischief
We hear that a Spanish law enforcement officer is keen to question a certain resident of Kansas about some mischief or the other.
This is the cop:
I'm sure that Tumbleweed, who's an upstanding and very helpful person, must be trying to book the next flight to Spain at this very moment in order to assist this fine cop in his investigation.
Peter and I would like to point out that there are frequent trains from Spain to our neck of the woods, should the cop let Tumbleweed go (or if she lets go of him).
Happy birthday, dear friend!

Name these girls - Bonus round
Some people sent me more than one photo for the old picture competition and I thought it would be a shame to waste them. All the girls below were featured in the original contest. Who's who?

Curiosities around the village
We have been taking long walks around our village and came across some interesting things.
The first photo is of the klaxon. It sounds everyday at midday. I guess people need to know when it's lunch time... Apart from the cafes, everything closes between 12 and 2 pm. When we first moved here, this siren would go off regularly to alert the pompiers (firefighters) of any emergencies. We were told what the number of blasts were: One for midday, two for fire, three times for road accidents, I can't remember what four times meant and in the Alps and the Pyrenees, five times was for avalanche. Three years ago the pompiers were issued with pagers, so the siren goes off just once a day now. We live very near the fire station, and we can see them driving up the road like maniacs when there's an emergency, then we see their appropriate vehicles going down the road at the rate of knots.
The next thing that caught our eye the other day was what we think is a cell tower. Pallottine asked if something he saw in one of the photos of the village was a cell tower (which confused me, as we call them mobile masts). What Pallottine saw was an ordinary electricity post. This one sits much higher on the hill and looks different from the normal posts.
Finally, we found this hobbit structure in the middle of the woods. Peter reckons it's a water pumping thingie. It has a vent on the top. I looked for any signs on the door, but there was nothing. We concluded it's not anything to do with electricity and high voltage, as they always put signs warning of "danger de mort." Danger of death!
I'm preparing a post with some nice photos and some of the history of the village, but I thought the pictures above were intriguing and didn't want to mix the subjects...

You proved to be a very competitive bunch, just for the fun of it, considering that there were no prizes involved... New ideas for future competitions are very welcome. This was great fun and deserves to be repeated.
